Not every claim ages at the same speed. A product setting can change quickly, while a stable definition may remain useful for years. A freshness pass helps editors spend review time where change would matter.
Mark volatile claims
Highlight prices, interface instructions, legal requirements, benchmark figures, named personnel, and platform policies. Note the source date and the date your team last checked it. Prefer the primary publisher when one is available.
Recheck the claim, not just the link
A working URL can still contain changed guidance. Compare the article’s wording with the current source and preserve qualifications, geography, and measurement periods. Replace dead or secondary citations when a better primary source exists.
Leave an audit trail
Record what was checked, by whom, and when. If verification is unavailable, narrow the wording or remove the claim rather than presenting an assumption as current fact.
The pass does not guarantee permanent accuracy. It creates a visible, repeatable decision process for the claims most likely to become misleading.
