Internal-link work often focuses on adding links. A destination health round asks whether the pages receiving those links are still the right canonical destinations.
Choose a bounded sample
Start with destinations touched by today's content batch, then include pages receiving several new links. Avoid turning the round into a full-site crawl; schedule broader audits separately.
Verify the destination
Request the final URL directly. Check for a successful response, self-canonical, indexable markup, useful heading, and current reader answer. A live page can still be a poor destination when its intent no longer matches the anchor context.
Inspect link context
Read the sentence around each source link. The anchor and surrounding text should prepare the reader for what the destination actually provides. Replace vague anchors only when the new wording remains natural.
Log decisions
Record keep, repair, replace, or remove with a reason. Escalate canonical conflicts and redirect chains rather than patching around them with more links. The daily log creates a reliable queue for deeper technical work.
