Technology marketers use many distribution channels, but channel presence is not the same as channel performance. CMI's 2025 research reports broad use of organic social, corporate blogs, and email, while also showing that the most effective channel depends on the organization's audience and measurement practice.

Choose distribution by job

Use search and the corporate blog for durable discovery, email for known audiences, social for reach and conversation, and events or webinars for deeper intent. Keep each channel's job explicit. Otherwise a team can publish the same asset everywhere without knowing what success means.

For daily article production, use a short distribution checklist: validate canonical URL, add internal links, publish the research page, queue the relevant social or email excerpt, and record the first measurement date. Do not count a scheduled post as a completed distribution outcome.

The SEO content distribution checklist and content repurposing playbook provide the operating pattern. A content scheduling VA can run the queue and surface exceptions.

Methodology and limits

The CMI survey was fielded June 25 through August 16, 2024, with 980 B2B respondents in the reported sample. Use figures as reported channel use and perceived effectiveness, not as a forecast for one company.

Frequently asked questions

Should every article use every channel?

No. Match channel to audience, intent, production capacity, and measurable next step.

What is the first distribution metric?

Record delivery or reach, engaged visits, qualified conversions, and assisted pipeline separately by channel.

Can distribution be delegated?

Yes. Scheduling, link checks, UTM hygiene, and reporting can be delegated. Positioning and channel strategy still need an owner.
